Why a specialist insurance policy for my sports car?
A standard car insurance policy works with the current market value and standard depreciation. With a sports car or classic, the real value often develops differently – sometimes it even rises. A specialist policy works with an appraised or agreed value, a repairer of your choice and cover that suits how you use the car.
What is a valuation report and do I need one?
A valuation report records the value of your car, as assessed by a certified valuer. If the insurer accepts the report under article 7:960 of the Dutch Civil Code (BW), that value applies in the event of a total loss or theft and you will not have to prove anything afterwards. Such a report is usually valid for 36 months. We always recommend one for classic cars and cars that are rising in value.
What does a purchase-value or fixed-value arrangement mean?
With a new car, the insurer pays out the purchase value rather than the current market value during the first few years. How long this applies varies by insurer. With a fixed-value arrangement, an agreed amount applies, often based on a valuation report.
Is a tracking system mandatory?
Above a certain list price, insurers require an approved tracking system. The threshold and the required class vary by insurer and by make. We will tell you in advance what applies to your car and can arrange the installation for you.
Can I save on my premium with a mileage limit?
Yes. If you drive, for example, 5.000 or 7.500 kilometres a year, the risk is lower and you will see that reflected in your premium. Reassuringly, there is a reasonable margin built in, so an extra trip to the Ardennes is no problem.
Am I insured on the track?
On a circuit or during a speed event, a regular car insurance policy usually provides no cover. Separate cover for track days is available per day or per season. Please ask us before you sign up.
Can I choose my own repairer if there is damage?
With our policies you can, as a rule, choose your own authorised brand dealer or specialist, with original parts. For cars like these, that matters for the residual value and the factory warranty.
Can I put several cars on one policy?
Yes, with a collection policy you insure several cars on a single policy, including your everyday car. You often pay less than for separate policies, and you have just one renewal date.
